Decision Support Scheme on Palm

Installation of LogReg on your PC and Palm is conducted in three steps. First, you will need to install LogReg to your Palm. Next, a conduit should be installed on your PC and be registered with HotSync, a Palm synchronization manager. Finally, you should choose which models you want to use on your Palm by selection a number of XML files to be transferred when Palm synchronizes with your PC.

Step 1. LogReg program installation on your Palm

• Download LogReg program from PalmPilot (LogReg.zip) and run it (double-click the downloaded file)
• A window similar to the following should open

  

• Click "Done"
• Synchronize your Palm with the PC. Wait until synchronization completes.
• Check the programs that are on your Palm. Find newly placed LogReg's icon. Here is an example how LogReg looks like on your Palm Applications window:

  

• Run LogReg on your Palm. The window informing you that there are no models on your Palm will appear. Press OK. This initializes LogReg's data base, and you are now ready for the next step.

Step 2. LogReg conduit installation

• Locate your Palm directory. This is the directory that holds all of your Palm applications and Palm desktop. It is usually something like c:/Program Files/Palm. If you are unable to find it, search your disks for palm.exe, which resides in the same directory.
• Download LoReCond.zip and unzip the files into Palm directory.
• Edit InstallWin.ini, one of the files you have just downloaded, with Notepad (or some other text editor): the file should include one line only, which should specify the location of LoReCond.dll. If LoReCond.dll is in c:/Program Files/Palm directory, than InstallWin.ini should contain:
  
  Path=c:/Program Files/Palm/LoReCond.dll
  
  
• Run ConduitInstall.exe from your Palm directory. You can run it from Windows Explorer, or, run Start > Accessories > Command Prompt, and run this application by changing the directory to Palm directory and running ConduitInstall:
  
  > cd c:/Program Files/Palm
  > ConduitInstall.exe
  
  If everything is ok, then the last line should read "Registration Succeeded"
• You need to rerun HotSync in order to update it with the changes you have just made. You can do that either by restarting your PC, or exit HotSync and run it again. You can exit HotSync by right-click on its icon on the task bar and choose "Exit".

  

  To run it again, find HotSync Manager in Start > Programs > Palm Desktop.
• If your installation was succesfull, then LogReg conduit should appear in the list of conduits registered with HotSync. You check this by right-clicking on HotSync icon on the task bar, and choosing "Custom". The screen you get should look include Log.Regression:

  

• If the window you have just opened contains Log.Regression, but the Action is not set to "Desktop overwrites handheld", choose Log.Regression (it should be highlighted now) and press "Change�" button, and then set appropriate action:

  

Step 3. Loading your XML models to Palm

• Go to your Palm directory (see Step 2). Go to its subdirectory which is identified by your user name (such as an initial of your name and user name). Create a subdirecroty LogReg. The complete path of this subdirectory should now be something like c:\Program Files\Palm\BZupan\LogReg. We will call this your root LogReg directory.
• Download xmllist.zip, which contains XML-model management software and a couple of XML models you can test your system on. Unzip xmllist.zip to some your root LogReg directory.
• Run the program XMLLogReg.exe
• Click "�" on the upper right of the window, and create a new file XMLFiles.txt your root LogReg directory.
• Add XML files that store the models you whish to include and use with your Palm. To add the two models that came with installation, press "Add" in main XMLLogReg window, and locate TRISS.xml in your root LogReg directory. Choose it, and press "Open". Do the same with Crush.xml. XMLLogReg's screen should now look something like this:

  

• Press "Save" and "Exit", to save the list of XML files you want to download to Palm and exit LogReg's XML file manager.
• You can always run XMLLogReg again to include any other XML files or update the list of models that you whish to use on Palm.
• (Instead of using XMLLogReg, you can do the same simply by creating or maintaining XMLFiles.txt file in your root LogReg directory. In each line, this file contains a name of XML file that is transferred to your Palm next time you synchronize it with the PC. For instance, the above procedure creates XMLFiles.txt that includes the following two lines:
  
  D:\Program Files\Palm\BZupan\LogReg\Crush.xml
  D:\Program Files\Palm\BZupan\TRISS.xml
  
  Notice also that your XML models may be located anywhere on your PC.)
• Now you're ready to synchronize your Palm with a PC. Synchronize the Palm now. If you have followed the installation procedure and everything is ok, then running LogReg on your Palm should immediately go to the Model selection window, where you can choose either "Crush Injury" or "Trauma Severety Score".
