When an employee or self-employed person takes sick leave and is entitled to reimbursement under the sickness insurance scheme, the employer faces unnecessary paperwork as a reimbursement claim has to be made. It requires the SICK LETTER issued by the attending physician to be WRITTEN and the details of the wages and hours paid for the previous year or period to be entered. All this information from the sick note could be submitted from the doctor's surgery, where it is drawn up directly by the doctor to the health insurer, who only needs to obtain the wage and hour data for the previous years and periods directly from the FURS, to which this information is submitted on a monthly basis via the REK-1 forms. The insurance company then simply pays the reimbursement.
