In the public administration, and especially in (some) administrative units, we are facing a shortage of staff, and I think it is necessary to think about streamlining operations and eliminating unnecessary tasks. I recently had the idea of replacing the current tills with cashiers with smog-service tills, along the lines of the larger shopping centres. I believe that the cost of buying an automated till would be recouped within a year at the latest, and most customers should have no problems, while those who do not should be helped by staff in the beginning.
