We have sold a motorbike that was decommissioned a few years ago. When the motorcycle was registered with an authorised organisation, the seller was charged a deregistration fee of €11.80, even though the motorcycle had already been deregistered and the registration plates had been returned.  When I enquired about this at the administrative unit, I was told that this was the law and that they had a lot of cases like this. In my opinion, it is unjustified to charge for de-registration, as the de-registration has already been done once and the appropriate fee paid. I suggest that the Motor Vehicles Act be amended accordingly
