"This study decomposes the differences between average life expectancies at age x by double standardization into effect of differences in the mortality structure by causes of death, and into effect of differences in the average life expectancies of those deceased due to certain causes of death, relying on abridged life tables by causes of death as for Belgium and Hungary in 1984.... The mortality structure by causes of death is more favourable in the case of females in both countries, but it contributes less to the rather significant differences in general mortality level.
