Dear Sir or Madam, I propose to introduce a higher purchase tax, a higher road tax and a more expensive registration for single-track vehicles over 250cc. I also propose mandatory measurement of emissions and noise at maximum revs at roadworthiness tests, a legal limit on engine power to a maximum of 70hp, and a rule that the registration plate must be placed at the same angle as the car, not so that it looks nicer. I justify the proposal with the following arguments: In Slovenia, the number of single-track vehicles has risen from 75 000 to 100 000 in ten years, and the trend in the future shows an increase in the number of these vehicles. In most cases, these vehicles are used purely for entertainment, and they use roads that are already congested with normal everyday traffic. Leisure activities are not usually carried out on the roads, are they? The consumption of a 1000cc engine is practically the same as that of a 1.0TSI VW Golf. These vehicles make loud and unnecessary noise and, with today's manufacturing technology, they should not be any louder than cars. These vehicles also take their toll in approximately 20 dead motorcyclists a year and 100 more seriously and many more lightly injured. Rehabilitation of those who have been killed is long, expensive and, for many, never completed, which is a huge drain on the public purse, and it also leaves young families without fathers who have fatal accidents. I should add to this that the driving of these vehicles is a source of anxiety and stress for the rural population, and the speeds are a menace. The public purse needs every euro, and it is here to be picked up. These vehicles are pure luxury and an unnecessary source of pollution, noise, danger, annoyance and stress. Thank you for your consideration of the proposal and welcome.
