I propose to the government that semaphore crossings in Slovenia, following the example of some other countries, e.g. the UK or the Netherlands, should be arranged in such a way that the green light for pedestrians and cyclists is switched on in all directions at the same time, while the red light for motor vehicles is switched on in all directions at the same time. At the same time, this means that whenever the green light is on for motor vehicles (in either direction), pedestrians and cyclists do not enter the junction because the light is red in all directions. I believe that such an arrangement would contribute to better safety for pedestrians and cyclists and to better traffic flow at semaphore-controlled intersections. Under the current system, motor vehicles entering and turning right at a green light have to wait for pedestrians to cross and, in particular, have to watch out for cyclists approaching the junction from a distance, who are often ignored by motorists, deprived of the right of way and even involved in an accident.
