I propose that the government adopt a regulation to introduce an ecological tax on diesel vehicles of lower ecological standards than Euro 6, in proportion to the annual vehicle use charge: Euro 5: 20% Euro 4: 50% Euro 3: 100% Euro 2: 150% Euro 1 and below: 250% The tax is not paid for vintage vehicles, but also for freight vehicles, which currently even have a relief at Euro 5. Perhaps in a transitional period of 1 year the fees would be half. Reason: there are still a lot of old vehicles on our roads, some of them (especially old diesels) are ecologically very controversial. With the expulsion of diesels from Germany, France and other countries, the number of such vehicles will increase further. It seems to me necessary to make the ecologically controversial vehicles less attractive than the less ecologically controversial ones, so that the buyer of a second-hand car will first ask what Euro standard it is before asking how many kilometres it has covered and what year it is. It is right that owners should also pay for the dirt that they cause. The money collected in this way could be used to promote more environmentally friendly transport: subsidising bus or train fares for those on lower incomes, improving cycling infrastructure, parking at railway stations, etc.
