Currently, overtaking is prohibited on certain sections of motorways for vehicles heavier than 7.5 tonnes between 6:00 and 9:00 and between 14:00 and 17:00. Heavier goods vehicles, by driving slower and overtaking other goods vehicles for longer, not only impede traffic flow but also endanger other road users. I propose to the Government that on the roads managed by DARS, it should introduce a longer overtaking ban period for vehicles heavier than 7.5 t (e.g. between 6:00 and 20:00) and that it should provide for more police control on the motorways.
