The proposal is related to the distance of parking space in the streets and around the city, where parking spaces at the roadside are well marked, but cause additional driving challenges when turning into other equivalent roads (e.g. intersection with parking spaces to the left right of the road) or into entrances of side roads, side streets (e.g. next to residential buildings) due to the insufficient distance from the entrance of the street/road to the metered line of the parking space. Drivers park the car until the last centimetre of space is used, which often results in the car being parked right next to the parking line, too close to a turn or a pedestrian crossing. Turning into such side streets and roads is very impractical! Visibility from the left and right is questionable, both for those entering the main road/street and for those turning from the main road/street into the side street/road. Not to mention pedestrians and cyclists when the pedestrian crossing is right at the end of the parking space next to the carriageway, let alone when there is no pedestrian crossing! This is a challenge for us residents (our street) when we use our vehicles on a daily basis, but I can see similar examples all over our city, even in other places, including Ljubljana, in fact in every town and city if you take a good look around and take the time to observe your surroundings. A short while ago, a neighbour needed emergency medical assistance in the middle of the night. The ambulance came to look for him and precisely because of the lack of visibility (and darkness) and the impracticality of entering the side street from the main street (due to the parking or positioning of cars along the main road/street! even though they were parked properly in the designated area!), it took the ambulance more than 5 minutes one way from the main road/street to get to him (the neighbour's house is less than 50m away from this entrance). Finally, he partially turned around on the pavement (one-way street) and by reversing back from the neighbour's house. I can't imagine what it would be like if firefighters needing quick access had to turn into our street (the main street and the side streets next to the residential properties). This is an extreme situation in our street, but it happens all over the country. I think we need a better legal definition and signage to allow easier parking and passage by extending the start of the parking space by one or two metres from the entrance to such streets/roads (in large and small towns!), precisely for ease of passage and safety in everyday situations for all road users and in cases of emergency assistance.
