I would like to ask for an appropriate amendment to the legislation governing the introduction of shared space, which is urgently needed, for example on Slovenska cesta in Ljubljana, where there is a real confusion about the traffic arrangements between the Gosposvetska-Slovenska and Šubičeva-Slovenska junctions. There is no marked pedestrian crossing between the Nama department store and the Post Office of Slovenia, and this stretch of Slovenská cesta has been declared Zone 30. Pedestrians cross this stretch everywhere, obstructing both buses and cyclists. The police do not know what to do, and sometimes they just get helplessly angry and watch what is happening. I ask the authorities to take action as soon as possible. Shared traffic space is a public space or traffic area where there is no division between motorised and non-motorised road users, but all users share the whole area, with pedestrians having priority. Instead of signs defining where motorised vehicles can drive, where cyclists can cycle and where pedestrians can walk, everyone is free to choose how they move. To this should be added appropriate signage to warn blind and partially sighted people to enter the shared traffic space.
