I propose that the B and C categories of the driving test be amended in the provisions on the maximum weight up to which a motor vehicle may be driven. At present, vehicles with a maximum authorised weight not exceeding 3500 kg fall under category B, and vehicles with a maximum authorised weight exceeding 3500 kg fall under category C. I propose that the limit for category B be moved up to 5000kg, or better still, as in Germany, where the limit is 7500kg and all vehicles up to that weight can be driven with a category B licence. These are slightly larger vans and smaller lorries, which you do not need any extra knowledge to drive, and it would make it easier for a lot of people to get into the trade, or allow them to drive a slightly larger camper van, which they cannot drive with a B category at the moment.
