I am convinced that there are huge savings to be made on the cost of prescription medicines. I propose that the Government of the Republic of Slovenia, together with the Ministry of Health and the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia, consider the possibility of pharmacies taking control of the dispensing of prescription medicines, as this is the only place where it would be possible to control the consumption of medicines.
If this is not possible, controls on prescription dispensing should be carried out in the outpatient clinics of health centres.
However, no patient in need of medicines should be put at risk by austerity.
