The ZUJF introduced a completely pointless additional tax (surcharge) on motor vehicles, depending on HP and engine capacity. Larger vehicles are thus taxed twice as much; first with a higher DMV (higher consumption) and then with this higher surcharge (higher engine capacity and power). Such larger luxury vehicles are bought by individuals who know how to optimise their investment for tax purposes. The same vehicle is €50,000 or more cheaper abroad, but this is already a big enough difference to make it worthwhile for the individual to look for alternative ways of buying a vehicle. Thus, we now have many luxury cars with foreign plates from which the State has nothing; no VAT, no DMV and, of course, not even this absurd surcharge under the ZUJF. If this surcharge did not exist, the State could collect more than €30 000 in lost taxes on a car worth at least €100 000. Has anyone at the Ministry of Finance/FURS made an analysis of the tax losses due to this measure under the ZUJF? We propose to withdraw this 'temporary' surcharge on motor vehicles.
