I am not an expert in this area, but I would still like to know why we cannot pass a law making it necessary for all goods vehicles in transit to be loaded onto special wagons and transported by rail across our territory? It would certainly also be allowed on the roads, but the toll would be much more expensive. Thus, all the freight that is not so express would prefer to go by rail, which would make a little more money. The only obstacle to this could be if lorries contribute more to the public purse, if they fill up with fuel here and if DARS earns more from lorries than from cars. But if we were to calculate things, we could surely set a price such that even rail transport would raise enough money for the Treasury (perhaps supplemented by an environmental subsidy). This would go a long way to relieving the burden on our environment (CO2 emissions, noise, congestion, destroyed roads...) and on our overcrowded Slovenian roads, which are already in a pretty shabby state anyway!
