I propose that the government introduce a religious tax to fund religious communities and churches. This is the only fair way to fund religious organisations and is the way it is done in several European countries. The work of religious communities and churches must be financed exclusively by the faithful. Each religious community and church should obtain from each individual believer, certified by the UE, a declaration that he or she is a believer. For children up to 14 years of age, the declaration would be signed and certified by parents or guardians, while minors between 14 and 18 years of age and adults would sign the declaration themselves. Each registered believer of a particular religious community or church would then pay xy% religious tax on his/her income. The introduction of a religious tax would eliminate the unfair and unjustified financing of religious communities and churches on the principle of solidarity. Under the current system, religious organisations are also funded by non-believers. The religious tax thus collected would be used by religious communities and churches to pay for health insurance, pensions, monthly salaries, etc. for their clergy or other employees. Each religious community and church would have an accurate number of registered worshippers and manipulation of the number of worshippers would be eliminated.
