I propose to introduce a special supplementary health insurance for pets. This proposal is not just off the top of my head, but is based on practical experience. I have 2 cats and every time there is something medically wrong with one of them, the costs add up to hundreds. The check-up alone costs at least 30euro. So, I would not mind paying 2 euro more each month in my supplementary insurance so that I could then have some financial advantage in paying for veterinary services for my pets. I have discussed this with some other pet owners and they all agree. Let's say a simple X-ray for animals can cost over 100 euro... we humans have it for free because we pay into the health insurance fund regularly. Such insurance would, of course, be purely optional, logically, but it would specify which at least basic services it covers; as I mentioned, a simple check-up can cost 30 euro or more... with such insurance, at least that could be free. Or, say, the x-ray mentioned above could be at least 50% cheaper. All of us who have ever had pets know that the cost of having a sick animal can quickly exceed 500eur, even 1000. With such insurance, we could reduce all this and allow owners to care for their pets more easily and with better quality for lower costs. I know many pensioners who have dogs, for example, but their pensions do not allow them to have the appropriate vaccinations, neutering, check-ups, etc. With such insurance, this could be feasible.
