Saturday's accident on the Primorska motorway at around 14:00 was the worst road accident in terms of the number of people involved in the accident. Around 70 vehicles, including four trucks and one bus, were involved in several collisions. Four people died and more than 30 were injured. The accident was caused by speeding, dense fog and too short a safety distance. In the USA, the maximum speed limit on most highways is 65 mph, which is 105 km per hour.
I propose that the maximum speed limit for vehicles on our motorways be lowered from 130 to 110 km per hour.
