As one of the tens of thousands of users who travel at least twice a day during weekdays along the northern Ljubljana ring road between Koseze, past Bežigrad, to Jarši and back, I find that at peak times the ring road has become virtually gridlocked, with traffic in both directions at a standstill or in a tight, extremely slow queue. Even though we drivers adapt to driving on the ring road and sort ourselves according to the length of the journey on the ring road (all those travelling past the busiest exits and entrances to the ring road (Bežigrad, Šiška) sort themselves into the left lane), it does not help and the traffic is in a slow congested queue. The already heavy traffic on this stretch is further complicated and at the same time endangers the safety of other road users. These trucks, whether travelling east-west or vice versa, turn off the motorway and use the expressway. In the already dense traffic, convoys (5 or more trucks in a row) form, making it extremely difficult to sort the traffic on the ring road. And, most dangerously, by suddenly changing lanes, they repeatedly use the overtaking lane for their own driving. This completely obscures their view of what is happening from the drivers behind them. This often leads to collisions or sudden stops. I therefore propose that a regulation be adopted as soon as possible to restrict the use of goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes on the entire northern ring road.
