I propose that we make the internet as cheap as possible for the socially disadvantaged, disabled, children, students and schoolchildren.
1-Propose to reduce VAT on telecommunication services such as internet, IPTV, cable from the current 22% to a reduced tax rate of 9.5% or waive it altogether and make these services tax free for the disabled who have been so since childhood and those who are dependent on the help of others and for socially deprived children,
for socially disadvantaged students and pupils, at least make the internet tax-free, which is now a necessity for their education.
This measure would make the Internet and television at least slightly cheaper by exactly 22%, which is better than nothing, and would enable many disabled people to have access to the Internet, IPTV, cable, because at present most of them cannot even afford the Internet, let alone the Internet with IPTV, which is very expensive, and they cannot even dream of having the Internet and IPTV with the very low disability allowance of between EUR 140 and EUR 290, which is a disability allowance.
So at least you will show some compassion for the disabled and the disadvantaged children in such cases, it cannot be profit-money-first or am I wrong, you will not waste a euro more with this measure, you will just give up the tax on these services in these cases.
2-I also suggest that you make a written and oral public petition to the Ministry of Social Welfare to the Internet and other service providers to significantly reduce the prices of their services by at least 30% on a permanent basis to the socially disadvantaged disabled, children, students and schoolchildren because they do not listen to individuals and do not want to hear anything about it except in cases where there is a TV talk about a particular disabled child to give her free Internet and IPTV to make a little publicity.
They already have various promotional offers for new subscribers where some offer even 1 year 50% and more discount on their services, but this is of no use to socially disadvantaged disabled people, children, pupils, students when they have to pay the full price again after the promotional period is over.
At the moment, some of them offer only a symbolic discount for disabled people after the campaign expires of about 1.2 euro or maximum 10% on the selected service.
3-Discounts should be given to those who have been disabled since childhood and to other disabled people who are dependent on the help of others, most often their parents, as they receive very low disability benefits and are socially deprived, as every euro saved could be spent on various food supplements, special diets, more therapy, various aids, etc...,
Internet providers could offer at least a 30% permanent discount on their services to socially disadvantaged disabled people and children, or they could waive the tax altogether in these cases, thus allowing significantly more socially disadvantaged disabled people and children to have access to the internet and television, and in this case making these services 52% cheaper.
I hope that you in the Government will support this proposal and give it your backing.
