I propose that the presence of the father at the birth be included in the delivery service covered by health insurance. The recognised cost of childbirth by the health insurer should remain the same. More and more hospitals (most recently UKC Maribor) are charging for the presence of the father at the birth. Given that this incurs negligible costs for the hospital (washing that gown does not cost them more than a few cents), this is pure profiteering by hospitals at the expense of the parents' desire to involve the father as much as possible. The profession also encourages the father to be involved as much as possible, both before, during and, of course, after the birth, and I therefore consider it harmful to destimulate attendance in the form of paid attendance.
