I propose that the status of farmer should be fully equated with that of sole trader. There is no sensible reason why farmers (and their entire staff) should enjoy benefits that sole traders (and their staff) do not, e.g.: - significantly lower pension and health insurance contributions - tax-free sale of produce and services (tourist farms) - grants and subsidies If the government does not think it is sensible to reduce the benefits of the farmer status, then the same benefits should be provided to sole traders, or vice versa.
