I propose that the government passes a law to allow volunteer firefighting organisations to purchase firefighting protection and rescue equipment tax-free. I justify this proposal on the grounds that the volunteer fire service is being less and less cared for. There is less and less money and the state is behaving very macho towards volunteer firefighters. Increasingly safe and sophisticated equipment is being demanded, and it is also very expensive. So are protective equipment and suits. The possibility of purchasing equipment without VAT would significantly reduce the costs for volunteer firefighters, which would in turn also contribute to better equipment and, consequently, to greater safety for firefighters.
