Hello! I propose a reform of the Slovenian holidays according to the following scheme: New Year - 1. 1. Prešeren Day - first Monday in February Science Day - first Friday in March Day of Resistance against the Occupier - first Monday in April Labour Day - first Friday in May National Day - first Monday in June Rudolf Maister Day - first Friday in July Reunification of Prekmurje Day of the Return of the Prekmurje Slovenians to the Motherland - first Monday in August Day of the Return of Primorska to the Motherland - first Friday in September Day of Sport - first Monday in October Day of Remembrance of the Dead - first Friday in November Independence and Unity Day - first Monday in December In return, each month would have one public holiday (day off work) on the first Monday or Friday of the month (except of course New Year). This would give us an extended weekend once a month, which would suit most people, rather than having to work/school on Monday, have Tuesday off work and then go back to work/school on Wednesday. I note that there is no significant difference on which day the holiday would be celebrated, as it is just a formality of date (a principle similar to that of birthdays, where we wish someone a happy birthday on the exact anniversary of whose birthday, but always wish him/her a happy birthday after all). The official celebrations would therefore be held on the day of the aforementioned dates, with all the necessary historical and other colouring, on the occasion of the holidays. The new dates would also include: - Science Day in March to celebrate science and technological progress - one less day of Labour Day (2 May) - Rudolf Maister Day in July, similar to the 23rd of May. November, but in July, the month of his death - the reunification of the Prekmurje Slovenians with the mother nation would be a day off work - the day of the return of Primorska to the motherland would be a day off work - a day of sport in October, dedicated to celebrating Slovenia's top athletes and sport in general According to my idea, there would no longer be any Christian holidays, as Article 7 of the Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia stipulates that religious communities are separate from the state. A new census should be carried out to find out what proportion of people in Slovenia are of which religion. At present, the majority denomination is Catholic, with just over 50% of adherents. As soon as there is no longer a majority of at least 50%, public Christian festivals at national level would be abolished. The minority must not and cannot command the majority, and anyone who knows the history of Slovenia or has read, for example, Prešeren's The Baptism at Savica knows that Christianity is a religion that has been imposed on us, and much blood has been spilled because of it, and there have been too many well-known cases of all kinds of abuses within the Roman Catholic institution. I attach a draft of what the calendar would look like. Greetings Evanescence
