I propose that the government amend the regulations governing activities for the proper design of traffic areas to stipulate that pavements and cycle lanes adjacent to carriageways should be at a uniform level, without special gradients for side access. In the existing situation, pavements and cycle lanes are lowered to allow for side connections, which is mostly done in a similar way to motor vehicle speed bumps on carriageways, except that motor vehicle speed bumps are marked with appropriate traffic signs, whereas pavements and cycle lanes do not have such warnings. The lowering of pavements and cycle lanes has created dangerous sloping surfaces which are particularly dangerous in winter. Pavements and cycle lanes are thus degraded to the level of side accesses, even though road users on pavements and cycle lanes have priority over road users joining the priority traffic area from side accesses.
