I propose to the government that instead of social benefits, we introduce payment for socially useful work. There is a lot of work in our society that is not worth doing by private individuals and could be done by those who receive social assistance from the state. Examples: - to provide companionship for the elderly and the lonely - helping the elderly, the disabled and others in need (cleaning, cleaning, shovelling snow, etc.) - cleaning up cities - maintenance work on public buildings (painting schools, hospitals, cleaning chewing gum from pavements, etc.) - dealing with the consequences of natural disasters - cleaning up nature - etc. This would do a lot of positive things. Firstly, people on social assistance would feel more integrated in society, they could gain new experiences and skills and at the same time they would prevent illegal work. After all, most people know that you cannot survive on EUR 280 on social assistance and that you have to earn something on the side. By giving people who have social support an obligation, they cannot work illegally, because they must be available for socially useful work. The state could save quite a bit on expenditure by having a work brigade, so that some of the money that we otherwise pay out of the budget for the services provided by the 'work brigade' could be allocated to them, and so public spending would be reduced. Of course, the idea is in its infancy. There are still many things to be worked out (work accidents, bonuses for the most enthusiastic, organisation of work, etc.).
