There are more and more bicycles on the roads and more and more delicate situations caused by cyclists. I propose that all bicycles be subject to compulsory registration and roadworthiness tests. The biggest problem is posed by 'sport' cyclists who, despite the wide cycle lane, ride on the carriageway, thereby obstructing traffic and endangering other road users and, above all, themselves. Their bikes are usually not equipped with lights and other mandatory equipment. If the bike had a registration plate, it could easily be reported to the relevant authorities. Registration would also have the advantage of making it easier to detect stolen bicycles. A technical inspection would ensure that only properly equipped bicycles are on the road. Priority for cyclists and pedestrians at crossings (especially roundabouts) should also be abolished, as it is not logical for a two-tonne car to stop for a cyclist, wasting fuel and polluting the environment.
