I PROPOSE A NEW TAX - A TAX ON TRADING MARGINS GREATER THAN 25 OR 30%. CONSEQUENCES : - quick immediate collection of the new tax - Reduction of prices, because high margins would no longer be worthwhile for them - domestic suppliers would be able to command higher purchase prices - Smaller local domestic shops would survive TAX AMOUNT: at least 80% tax on margins greater than 25 or 30% CAUSE: - since most trading companies are foreign, they take all profits abroad, so some would stay here - the retail margins are horrendously high, even above 80%, I know this as a consumer, when I fight for a rebate, and as a s.p. owner. l.p. Marko This tax is supposedly in Italy. it has also been talked about here , but apparently the trade lobby is very strong
