I recently read a case of unauthorised tree felling. The penalty is €50. According to a person with knowledge of the matter, this sum should cover the value of a half-metre seedling, even though the trees felled were much larger. They also state that if your pet dog jumps into the town's fountain in the heat of the day, the fine is €100. There are no proportions here. I therefore propose that proportionality be introduced in this area and in some other areas. I believe that the fine for the unauthorised felling of trees in public parks, housing estates, etc. should be at least EUR 1 000. It is clear that, when we are talking about healthy trees of, say, 20 metres in height, no one in this country can get them restored to their original state, because no one in this country replants mature trees. And even if they did, the bill would, on a quick estimate, exceed ten times the proposed penalty.
