The first amendment to the Road Safety Act should set a date (2-5 years) from which all newly registered vehicles should be fitted with a hands-free device and the wiring should be designed in such a way that the lights cannot be switched off when the engine is running. I think that there are a number of technical possibilities for meeting both requirements. If similar requirements had been introduced in the law when the lights were made compulsory (01.05.2000), at least half of the vehicles would now be (compulsorily) equipped. The second thing I would suggest is the reintroduction of vehicle registration marks according to the place (EU) of residence of the vehicle owner. I believe that for the inhabitants of towns and cities such a change is pure nonsense and completely unnecessary, but in the countryside people are self-defensive about vehicle registration. The current system, where the first neighbour drives from MB, the second from KK, the third from LJ, and I have a GO, reduces such attention, and, of course, indirectly reduces the safety of all of us.
