I propose that the top speed on motorways be reduced to 110 km/h. The reason for this is to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. In checking the fuel consumption of various cars, I have found that fuel consumption increases exponentially above 100 km per hour and is at least 20% higher at 130. There is an even greater increase in emissions due to the lack of flowing traffic when catching up with lorries and slow vehicles, restrictions in tunnels, etc. A similar measure has recently been adopted in Spain. I also propose that the same speed (110) be allowed in double-tube tunnels of the highest safety standard. In some countries I have seen tunnels on motorways with no restrictions. For the same reason, obstacles such as the remains of toll stations should be removed immediately. Toll lorries are a bad excuse, as potential toll defaulters can be taken care of by the controllers (e.g. a camera detects a lorry crossing in a lane not intended for it) and alerts the controller. The distances in Slovenia are so small that an absence would not be too serious. From Maribor to Ljubljana, at maximum speed, the journey time would increase by 5 minutes, and if toll stations were removed, probably not at all.
