Greetings, I propose that the government reduce the speed limit on the overtaking lane on motorways from the current 130km/h to 160km/h. At the same time, I would also like to increase the minimum speed limit in the overtaking lane from the current 60km/h to 110km/h. The first part of the proposal would allow faster and higher quality vehicles to bypass slower and lower quality vehicles. This would reduce queues on motorways. The second part of the proposal would prevent a bus or lorry travelling at less than 110 km/h from overtaking any vehicle and causing congestion. Of course, this means that speed limits would still exist on dangerous sections of motorway, but the current system of speed limits for the whole carriageway would be replaced by lane-by-lane minimum and maximum speed limits. The problem on motorways is not too much speed, it is more about which lane vehicles are speeding in. The lanes are problematic because vehicles are merging onto them from the approach and deceleration lanes and a speed of 160 km/h per hour could cause an accident. I do not see this problem in the overtaking lane if the speed limit was between 110-160km/h. I ask the Government and the users of the web portal to support the proposal for further consideration, otherwise let me know why my proposal is not suitable for further consideration. I also ask them to add any additional amendment that they would like me to include to this proposal. Lk
