A thorough reflection is needed on the benefits and negative impacts of student work as we know it in Slovenia today. In the short term, there are certainly benefits for students who earn a euro through this wage labour, but that is also all we get out of it. The long-term benefits are undoubtedly for employers, who significantly reduce labour costs through student work. Student work is supposed to give you the necessary work experience, but it is the case that what has the connotation of "student" does not really carry any serious weight of reference. There are always more students and employers can easily replace them, so they meekly play the role of 'jack of all trades' in fear for their student euro. Last but not least, it is a gross abuse of student status, as there are many individuals who, through this status, are a burden to the state and a benefit to employers! I propose that student work as we know it today should be abolished, as the long-term benefits for students are too small. The abolition of student work would have the immediate effect of opening up many regular jobs, which would reduce unemployment, but on the other hand it would significantly reduce the proportion of people with student status, because only those who really want to study would actually study, not those who want the status simply to work through the student service.
