Recently, large-scale campaigns have been launched in some EU countries against welfare exploiters. An article entitled: "She has two houses, 23 bills, a yacht and €25,000 in welfare!" highlights the case of Deidre Hynes, an Englishwoman who has been wrongly receiving welfare for nine years. cekin.si/clanek/for_home_and_druzino/ima-dwo-hisi-23-accounts-jahto-and-25-... The second case is from Germany. In an article entitled: "36 years he refuses all jobs but still gets €1,000 welfare", the case of a 54-year-old German from Hamburg who has been living on welfare for 36 years, refusing jobs and happily appearing on television, where he makes no secret of the fact that he is just lazy and that this is in fact the only reason he does not work. cekin.si/clanek/career_and_education/36-years-refuses-offered-services... In Slovenia, €9,010,378 in social assistance payments were made in October 2008, compared to €12,292,507 in October this year. It may be that all the recipients have rightly received social assistance, but what is surprising is that there has been such a huge increase in payments in the space of barely two years. Proposal I suggest that the relevant Slovenian institution dealing with the granting of social assistance should enquire from colleagues abroad how they verify eligibility for social support and then introduce this experience in our country. Cash social assistance should be paid only to those who actually need it.
