I have noticed that vehicles with only an electric motor for propulsion do not pay the road user charge. Why? Do they not drive on the same roads as other vehicles? The road user charge is exactly what the name says, a road user charge, not an air pollution charge. Taking into account that the number of electric vehicles will increase enormously in the coming years, it would make sense to redefine road user charging. Road user compensation could be calculated on the basis of the weight of the vehicle or on the basis of the kilometres travelled, because these are the two criteria by which it is possible to compare who is more and who is less destructive to the roads.
