Before all those of you who are growing up or have grown up hating motorcyclists stand up, please read what I have to say. 1. I grew up in a motorcycling family. I know what safe motorcycling looks like and that it can be safe even when over the limit (I have never ridden a motorcycle myself, but have been a passenger on several occasions). 2. I have a car licence (category B) and I know that the limits on cars are quite appropriate. Given that I know that absolutely no motorcyclists drive within the limits, it seems to me absurd that motorcycles should be treated on an equal footing with cars at all. For those of you who do not ride motorcycles or have never been a passenger: motorcycles do not behave like cars. Bends that a car can take at 50km/h can take you at 70km/h. Sometimes it can be dangerous for a motorcyclist to take a bend at a reduced speed, as they can fall off when leaning. I also think that motorcyclists are endangering their own safety and not the safety of others where there is only road traffic. Therefore, this should only apply outside settlements. Also, most motorcyclists do not ride for transport, but for pleasure. Which means that most motorcyclists are not in a hurry, they are just going faster for pleasure. Those who are driving for pleasure do not obey the law anyway. So my proposal is that we allow motorcyclists to exceed the limit by 10-20km/h. This would make it less punitive for motorcyclists. Penalisation does not make sense because motorcyclists have been doing it anyway for countless years and a change in the law would not make any significant difference to accidents or deaths of motorcyclists.
