Dear Sir or Madam, Drivers of vehicles, especially diesel vehicles, very often leave their vehicles running, idling, when, for example: - leaving the vehicle for a few minutes (vans, construction vehicles, public utility vehicles - lighting) (which can quickly become 10-15 minutes or more) - waiting for someone and keeping the vehicle running. - They may or may not get out of the vehicle to talk to someone they know. Especially (old, older) diesel vehicles produce a lot of fumes with a bad smell (stink), which pollutes the environment and has a very bad effect on the air of the person passing by or the whole environment. Expert studies reject this: the fuel cannot freeze, the engine warms up quickly anyway, and such idling has a huge negative impact on the surrounding environment (even though it was recommended at the beginning of the advent of diesel engines). In my opinion, such idling is just a bad habit and an extremely uncultured attitude towards others. I PROPOSE: to ban idling the engine for more than 10 seconds, except when the car is stopped at a traffic light (and here in Switzerland, they were already switching off their engines 30 years ago). This goes against our concern for a clean environment, a green Europe, and this kind of thing is extremely polluting (as are diesel vehicles in particular, but also other vehicles in general). We need to be very vigilant about this. Good luck and best regards. I sincerely hope that you will introduce this. We live in a community and people should not think only of their own benefit/comfort. MP
