There is a shortage of workers in Slovenian agriculture for fruit and vegetable production, so I propose to employ workers from the Employment Service, who receive social assistance, to work on the farm and receive remuneration appropriate to the work. If the farmer is unable to pay more than he would like, the State should come to the rescue with an allowance. If work is refused from an able-bodied worker for an unjustified reason, social assistance should be reduced or withdrawn altogether. Such a solution would help people, especially young people, to remain in good psycho-physical condition and to maintain or acquire new work habits, which would help them to get a job later on. Above all, they would start to respect farmers, the land and the food. If possible, the state could help by contributing to wages. A person working on the farm could buy a basket of assorted vegetables at a reduced price, which could increase domestic consumption and self-sufficiency. Such a solution can only be achieved by the whole of Slovenian society and politics working together for a better tomorrow.
