More and more employees in Slovenia commute to work from distant places. The problem is particularly the increasing concentration of jobs in Ljubljana and the simultaneous decrease in the supply of work in other places, especially in the periphery of the country. This has also resulted in an extraordinary increase in traffic from all parts of Slovenia to Ljubljana in the morning rush hour and vice versa in the afternoon. The Covid pandemic has shown that much of this work can be done from home. I therefore propose that the rules for the reimbursement of commuting costs be changed. All those who work from home should be paid an income at least equal to the current amount of this reimbursement, while other employees should receive a gradual reduction, with the aim of eliminating it.
