As part of the push for public transport (buses, trains, etc.), I propose that the private car becomes a little more "luxurious" than it is now, by the government introducing so-called "parking vignettes". This means that everywhere (except in specially marked private or shop car parks, and in car parks that already charge a fee) a sticker in the form of a vignette is required on the windscreen to prove that the car owner has paid a contribution to the state to park their car anywhere in a suitable public place. This measure would cover all car parks that are currently free of charge and belong to the State or a municipality. The money from the "parking vignettes" would be used to encourage the use of public transport. This would benefit us as a society in the long run, as people would buy cars more wisely and there would be fewer car owners, as car ownership would be more costly. In the long run, there would be more use of public transport, which would also be more attractive, organised and accessible, as it would be revitalised. (Disclaimer: I own a car myself and find it hard to give it up, but I am willing to pay for a "parking vignette" as part of the good for our society and the future of Slovenia. Sometimes, for the good of society, you have to think outside your own personal interests.)
